Meet Alan Smith
Candidate for Arizona State Senate
in Legislative District 15
“I will be your Citizen Legislator”
My Name is Alan Smith and I live in East Mesa off Ellsworth Rd. I will be be your Citizen Legislator moving Arizona forward by voting for Arizona’s priorities. We are all very different with our political party beliefs, but we cannot forget we are all Americans and Arizonans who love our country and the freedoms it affords us. Our Democracy is “the grand experiment” of rule by the people instead of kings, queens, dictators and religious leaders. Our VOTE is our tool to make this experiment work. There are millions of people around the world that would love to have a voice, a choice, a vote. They don’t, but you do. Vote for a legislator that represents you.
When the votes are counted and vetted, there is a winner and a loser. There is no place in voting for “alternate facts,” made up “facts,” “gut feelings” or cries of massive fraud with absolutely no evidence of wrong doing. If there is no confidence in voting, our Democracy is doomed. The 2020 election was not stolen. Arizona citizens voted and dedicated Arizona citizens counted the votes. Anyone who, eighteen months later AND with NO evidence of massive fraud, believes the election was stolen is undermining democracy. They call themselves patriots, that they support our constitution, but these individuals injured 140 officers and stopped one of America’s greatest traditions, the peaceful transition of power.
My Life Experiences
I grew up in the Midwest in Davenport, Iowa and graduated from Davenport Central High School. I went to the University of Iowa and graduated with a business degree in Finance. I worked as an auditor in the insurance field and was transferred and promoted several times in my 38 yr career where I held positions of increasing responsibility in Iowa, Utah, California, Colorado and Hawaii. I retired from the insurance industry in 2016. In my career, I spent many hours with small and large businesses across the Midwest and Western United States reviewing financial records, building spreadsheets and doing financial analysis. I have the benefit of age having seen the economy move through several up and down cycles during my career.
Though retired, I have been very active these past 6 years. I remodeled a fixer upper home. After that, I volunteered one day per week at Head Start and 2nd Grade public school classrooms at Mesa Public School District’s Stevenson Elementary. I am an active board member of Walking Down Ranch, a non-profit in Lakeside AZ assisting homeless vets. I started a recycle program in my community of 830 homes.
During my working years I coached children’s baseball and basketball, was officer of the year for our Davenport Jaycees civic club, President of the Insurance Auditors Association of the West with members from 11 Western states, taught religion class, was a Scoutmaster for a Boy Scout troop and I am an Eagle Scout.
I am 40+ years married to Karen, the love of my life, have three children and six grandchildren. We stay active walking our dog Copper, kayaking, swimming, hiking bicycling and playing pickleball. My passions, after family & friends, are following national, state & local politics; traveling and reading. I have had several “Letters to the Editor” published and traveled to 49 states & 17 foreign countries. I am way behind on my reading, but still fit it in when I can.
I am really enjoying talking to voters to understand their priorities. I want to understand what you think will move our state forward, research the issues and see how other states or countries handle issues similar to those in our state. I do this so I can make fact based decisions and plans for a better future for Arizona, for Arizona’s long term future.
I want to be your Citizen Legislator for the next four years or two terms. I want to do what is best for Arizona’s future in my term as senator. I am not and will not be a special interest focused, professional politician like my opponent.
Vote for Alan Smith for State
Senate in LD 15. Alan will be your Citizen Legislator working for you.
